“Folks know how large your soul is by the way you treat a dog.” Charles F. Foran

Hun Bun, found crossing a busy street in Clifton, CO.

My name is Jamie Floyd.  I own, operate and personally provide all of the services for Highland Dogs Pet Sitting. When you hire Highland Dogs, you hire me.

In my past life, I earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and a master’s degree in community counseling. I applied my education and experience to over twenty years in the human service field, primarily child-protective services and child/family mental health. Everything I have learned in my professional experience not only applies to Life 101, but also to dogs. Like children, dogs need nurturing, consistency, limits, a sense of safety, healthy nutrition, and regular exercise.

I founded Highland Dogs for a pure and simple reason; seeing a dog always brings a smile to my face, and most often, a chuckle too. It always happens, no matter the size, breed, color, or swagger. If I am lucky, I am allowed a chance to personally meet the little one and scratch him behind the ears.

I cannot remember a time when I was without a dog, now I have two. I no longer go out to adopt a dog. They seem to come to me—even when I think I am not looking for one. I have rescued countless dogs from the streets of Denver over the past 15 years. Some of them, I was able to return home, while others were in need of a new home. My friends make fun of me and have nicknamed me “Dog Rescuer Extraordinaire!” They know that on any given day, no matter where we are meeting, I could very likely show up with a random dog in my car.

In addition to my dog-rescuing endeavors, I have been grooming dogs for the past six years. Through this experience, I have not only learned how to make a shaggy dog into a proud prince or princess, but more importantly I have enhanced my understanding of their temperaments, behaviors, needs, and ability to keep them happy and safe.
